SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

Phase I

Preliminary Examination

Note:-

I. Phase –I is qualifying in nature and marks will not be reckoned for final merit.

II. For each wrong answer, there will be a negative marking of one-fourth of the mark assigned to that question.

III. The candidates will be shortlisted for Phase-II in the ratio of 1:10 i.e. about 10 times the number of vacancies in each category on the basis of their performance in Phase – I.

Phase II – Main Examination

NOTE –

1-The marks obtained in Phase – II will be considered for final selection.

2. For each wrong answer, there will be a negative marking of one-fourth of the mark assigned to that question.

3. The descriptive paper will be completely online, i.e. the questions will be displayed on the screen and the candidates will have to type the answers using the keyboard. The descriptive paper will be conducted online immediately after completion of an online objective test of Phase-II Main Examination.

4. The candidates will be shortlisted for Phase-III in the ratio of 1:5 i.e. about 5 times the number of vacancies in each category on the basis of their performance in Phase – II.

Phase III – Computer Skill Test (Computer Data Entry Test)

Candidates will be required to appear for the Skill Test to assess speed and accuracy for Data Entry Work.

The minimum requirement is 5000 key depressions per hour. Candidates short-listed for Skill Test will have to appear for a Skill Test.

NOTE:- 1. Computer Skill Test will be qualifying in nature. Marks obtained will not be reckoned for merit ranking.

Qualifying Marks: – Qualifying Marks in Phase-I (Preliminary Exam.) and Phase–II (Main Exam.) will be decided as per discretion of EPFO.

Computer-based Examination.

(a) One common examination will be conducted for AA and SSR entries.

(b) The question paper will be computer-based with a total of 100 questions, each carrying 01 marks.

(c) The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type (multiple-choice).

(d) The question paper will comprise of four sections i.e. English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.

(e) The standard of the question paper will be that of 10+2 Syllabus & sample papers for the examination are available on website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.

(f) The duration of the examination will be for one hour.

(g) The candidates are required to pass in all sections and in aggregate. The Navy reserves the right to determine the pass marks in each Section and in aggregate

(h) Penalty for Wrong Answer. Candidates should note that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the question paper. There are four alternatives for the answer to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

A. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

Written examination +SSB+MEDICAL+MERIT LIST

The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:

The maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be equal for each course i.e.

the maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be 300, 300, 300 and 200 each for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers’ Training Academy respectively.

The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions only. The question papers (Test Booklets) of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.

The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.

STANDARD

The standard of the papers in Elementary Mathematics will be of Matriculation level. The standard of papers in other subjects will approximately be such as may be expected of a graduate of an Indian University.

DETAIL SYLLABUS

ENGLISH (Code No. 01)

The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Code No. 02)

General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.

The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.

ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS (Code No. 03)

ARITHMETIC

Number System—Natural numbers, Integers, Rational and Real numbers. Fundamental operations, addition, substraction, multiplication, division, Square roots, Decimal fractions. Unitary method, time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation.

Elementary Number Theory—Division algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11.

Multiples and factors. Factorisation Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm. Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables.

ALGEBRA

Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M., Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between its roots and coefficients (Only real roots to be considered).

Simultaneous linear equations in two unknowns—analytical and graphical solutions. Simultaneous linear inequations in two variables and their solutions.

STATISTICS

Collection and tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation frequency polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts etc. Measures of central tendency.

SSB

The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are:-

(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception* Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in OIR Test and PP&DT.

Job Profile:-

(i) BRANCH POSTMASTER (BPM)

The Job Profile of Branch Post Master will include managing affairs of GDS Branch Post Office, India Posts Payments Bank (IPPB) and ensuring uninterrupted counter operation during the prescribed working hours using the handheld device/Smartphone supplied by the Department.

The overall management of postal facilities, maintenance of records, upkeep of handheld device, ensuring online transactions, and marketing of Postal, India Post Payments Bank services and procurement of business in the villages or Gram Panchayats within the jurisdiction of the Branch Post Office should rest on the shoulders of Branch Postmasters.

However, the work performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA, since the same is being done on an incentive basis. Branch Postmaster will be the team leader of the GDS Post Office and overall responsibility of smooth and timely functioning of Post Office including mail conveyance and mail delivery. He/she might be assisted by Assistant Branch Post Master of the same GDS Post Office.

BPM will be required to do the combined duties of ABPMs as and when ordered. He will also be required to do marketing, organizing meals, business procurement and any other work assigned by IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM, etc. In some of the Branch Post Offices, the BPM has to do all the work of BPM/ABPM.

(ii)ASSISTANT BRANCH POSTMASTER (ABPM)

The Job Profile of Assistant Branch Post Master will include all functions of sale of stamps/stationery, conveyance and Delivery of mail at doorstep deposits/payments/other transactions under IPPB, assisting Branch Postmasters in counter duties using the handheld device/Smartphone supplied by the Department.

However, the work performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA, since the same is being done on an incentive basis. He will also be required to do marketing, organizing meals, business procurement and any other work assigned by the Branch Postmaster or IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM, etc

. ABPMs will also be required to do Combined Duty of BPMs as and when ordered.

(iii)DAK SEVAK

The Job Profile of Dak Sevaks will include all functions of viz sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail and any other duties assigned by Postmaster/Sub Postmaster including IPPB work in the Departmental Post Offices/RMS.

However, the work performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA, since the same is being done on an incentive basis. He may also have to assist Post Masters/Sub Postmasters in managing the smooth functioning of Departmental Post Offices and do marketing, business procurement or any other work assigned by the Post Master or IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM, etc.

In Railway Mail Services(RMS), GDS has to handle the work related to RMS, like the closing/opening of bags, transport of bags from one place to another manually and any other works alloted by the RMS authorities.
